Mac software review

Realmac Software offers a nice application for webmasters. RapidWeaver allows Mac users to build websites from a scratch. You can create a blog, photo gallery, PHP-based contact form…

RapidWeaver 3.6 comes with built-in themes. There are three dozen themes to choose from. If you want themes, you can buy ones from Realmac Software and third-parties like Multithemes. Go to ‘Add-ons’ at Realmac Software’s website for more information.

Let me explain how to use RapidWeaver briefly. When you launch RapidWeaver, you will have an introduction screen. Click on the positive sign at the left bottom corner to choose the type of a page (blog, contact form, file sharing…) you want to build. (See Screenshot 1) Click on (i) button to customize the page. If you start with a blog page, you can incorporate some text and photos and hyperlinks. (See Screenshot 2) And change themes by clicking on the button at the right bottom. (See Screenshot 3)

  • Developer: Realmac Software (www.realmacsoftware.com)
  • Latest version: RapidWeaver 3.6
  • Prices: US$49, €38.42, ¥6,456…
  • MacHouse recommendation: It’s not a bad application available to Mac users who want to create a nice-looking website with little knowledge over HTML and PHP. But we are far from giving a buy-it! recommendation to RapidWeaver 3.6 for several reasons. (1) Regardless of its relatively high price as a shareware title, Realmac Software doesn’t offer a valuable user manual. They have a video tutorial, which offers little help viewable in a small frame. The version is 3.6, but there is not even a user manual in PDF. (2) RapidWeaver doesn’t come with a theme builder. If you want more themes, you have to spend more money. (3) They charge $25 just to upgrade from RapidWeaver 3.5 to 3.6. (4) The undo function is virtually non-existent.

RapidWeaver is a product of Realmac Software.
