What is WordPress? It is a free set of scripts developed by WordPress.org that lets you host a blog on your site. This is a great piece of freeware that we recommend every web site owner use it. In order to use WordPress, you need one MySQL database.

So why WordPress blogs? Firstly, WordPress is very easy to install. Secondly, publishing articles with WordPress is pretty simple. You don’t need HTML editors such as Adobe Dreamweaver and Microsoft FrontPage to write articles. All you need is just an Internet browser, and you can even upload graphic images without FTP. So you can read, write, edit and publish articles right online. Some of the features are





  • You can run QuickTime movies within WordPress.
  • WordPress has a powerful search function that visitors can use to find specific articles.
  • WordPress has a moderation function which lets you screen out visitors’ posts that don’t comply with your rules.
  • You can import images directly into the editing window so that you can embed them easily in your articles.
  • There are many language plugins which let you run a blog in your language.





  • As of August 31, 2006, the latest version of WordPress is 2.0.4.

    These two VTCs show how to install and set up WordPress to publish articles. The first VTC shows how to install WordPress without Fantastico. We also use a theme that we download. The second VTC briefly explains some of the features of WordPress. It also shows how to import images and compose articles.
