3ivx

3ivx is an MPEG-4-based video compression algorithm that is developed by 3ivx Technologies. Since 3ivx is not a stand-alone application, it requires an application that allows you to access codecs. For Mac users, it can be used with QuickTime Pro, MPEG Streamclip, Roxio Toast Titanium 7 and so forth. Windows users can freeware titles like VisualDub to access 3ivx codec. Though it is not widely used compared with DivX and XviD, some people use it to compress movies. Conveniently, 3ivx offers a free version of its video codec for Mac and Windows.

The current version of 3ivx codec is D4 4.5.1 for both Mac and Windows. For Mac users, 3ivx codec has not been in Universal Binary.
