Dead Space is Electronic Arts‘ latest third-person/action game. It was released in October 20. The game was developed by EA Redwood Shores.

In this game, you will play the character of Isaac Clarke. He is an engineering and ship systems specialist. Unlike others, he wears a special suit with a light blue heath meter at the back. It’s no question that’s a unique suit that you will never see in other games.

Deep space mining is a lucrative business, they say in the game. The USG Ishimura (Ishimura is a Japanese last name meaning ‘stone village’) is a mining vessel, which has gone missing in the Aegis System. There is no communications transmission from the vessel.

Dispatched to the Aegis System is a maintenance team aboard USG Kellion including Isaac Clarke, Kendra Daniels (computer specialist), Zach Hammond (the chief security officer) and others. Their mission is to locate USG Ishimura and find out the cause of communications blackout. As they explore the vessel, it’s empty, and there is no vital sign of life.  Continue reading

As we reported the other day, possibly one of the most promising PC games in 2008 Fallout 3 from Bethesda Softworks debuted three days ago.

More than two years ago, Bethesda Softworks released a hit role playing game called The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. It never made it to Macs. And we don’t know it will ever although an unofficial, hacked version of the PC game with TransGaming‘s Cider Technology seems to go around among Intel Mac users.

The latest release from Bethesda Softworks is also a role playing game with an unique scenario setup. Survivors of a nuclear war are locked up behind a facility called Vault 101. That’s where the character that you are playing will spend his or her first 19 years without knowing what it’s like being outside. The leader of the facility is The Overseer, an old African-American man who prohibits anyone from going outside. But one particular member is forced to take risks and leave the facility. Why? Well, sorry… You will find out why when you play the game. Anyway, the story is a bit different. But it should remind you of that of 2005 movie The Island.

This QuickTime video shows the first 40 minutes of a game play movie of Fallout 3 with no interruption. The movie will start at the scene where the character that you are playing is born and you will get to choose the gender and then name and other character elements.  Continue reading

Interview with TransGaming Technologies

The following is an interview with TransGaming Technologies (hereafter, TransGaming), a Canadian software company, which is well-known for its Cider Portability Engine among Mac users. TransGaming’s Cider Port technology is used to dual-release EA‘s hit game SPORE for Mac and PC. One of the latest games using Cider Port technology is Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones. Moreover, TransGaming runs the website at to sell the digital version of Mac games online.

This is not the result of a live interview. Rather, MacHouse submitted an interview questionnaire sheet to TransGaming by e-mail beforehand. The contact person at TransGaming is VP of Marketing. We initially requested an interview in September and received their reply by e-mail from Marketing & Business Development in October 28. We did not submit counter-questions. We did edit some parts of their reply only upon their request.  Continue reading

So what kind of story line does Fallout 3 have? According to its official website, it’s not totally related to Fallout or Fallout 2. The story evolves around Washington, D.C., which they call the Capitol Wasteland. Survivors are long locked inside Vault 101 after the global atomic war of 2077. The year is 2277, 30 years after Fallout 2 took place. More particularly,

Yet one fateful morning, you awake to find that your father has defied the Overseer and left the comfort and security afforded by Vault 101 for reasons unknown. Leaving the only home you’ve ever known, you emerge from the Vault into the harsh Wasteland sun to search for your father, and the truth.  Continue reading

Video Tutorial: Hemera Photo Clip Art (Mac) – Having Transparent Background Layer

Hemera Photo Clip Art 100,000

As the name suggests, this software gives the user access to a lot of clip art photos stored in 7 CDs. We’ve been using it for the past 3 years or so. We love it. But… We had a problem with it till several months ago. How do you have a transparent background layer? We couldn’t figure it out until something that I did without paying attention turned out to be right.

Using Export Assistant, it looks like all you have to do is to choose ‘EXPORT the image to a popular format’ (See Screenshot 01.), choosing a resolution, choosing a background color, choosing a graphic format and then saving the file. As shown in Screenshot 02-3, I always ended up not having an alpha layer. But you CAN have a transparent background even after selecting a background color. So let’s see how to do it.  Continue reading
